Cool Haus

Love the simple volume, setting and slightly cantilevered design. Inside is beautiful.

A Sustainable Chair

1006 Navy® Armchair w/ Wood Seat
Back by popular demand, Emeco has reissued its Navy Chair with a carved wood seat. Legend has it that Wilton Dinges, who founded Emeco in 1944, actually tossed a 1006 Navy Chair out the window of a six-story building. The result? A few minor scratches. Emeco’s 77-step patented construction process was invented to satisfy a military need for lightweight, corrosion-resistant equipment. In the late 1990s, the Navy Chair’s iconic design began catching the attention of architects and designers, initiating a new era for Emeco. Made in U.S.A.
  • Made with 80% recycled aluminum.
  • This chair has an estimated lifespan of 150 years.
  • Seat options include Cherry, Maple and Walnut. Shown in Cherry.

This is Cool™

I like this. A good mark scales and still works in black and white. On a billboard. On a fax.
Its really a beautiful identity and they did a service to the packaging with the leaf-like container.
Cool. Simple. Fun. A+

Concept Car

LF-CH from Lexus. Hopefully will debut as a production car in 2012. Finally a sporty looking hybrid that doesn't feel like a Prius on roids. The newly debuted HS250h is a great start but the pedestrian exterior styling leaves much to be desired and my money still firmly planted in the bank. If the LF-CH can roll out to seat 5, roll hybrid, have actual sporty looks and possibly borrow the all-wheel drive from the existing RX line than my name is on a waiting list. Oh, and lets get some range on the color palette, the yellow is a bit off. Lexus taking design styling cues from Minority Report is a good thing I feel and thinking less country club and more future forward will pay dividends for the bottom line moving forward. I'm a current IS owner and love my ride but nothing from the Lexus line has sparked my ignition except for the recent LF-A and this LF-CH concept.

DOING WHAT YOU LIKE IS
FREEDOM. LIKING WHAT YOU
DO IS HAPPINESS - FRANK TYGER

Design Zen

The Zen principles of Aesthetics are derived from the Buddhism beliefs of Anicca or Impermanence where “everything, without exception, is constantly in flux, even planets, stars and gods”. (Wikipedia)

THE PRINCIPLES:

FUKINSEI (imbalanced)
Asymmetry, odd numbers, irregularity, unevenness, imbalance is used as a denial of perfection as perfection and symmetry does not occur in nature.

KANSO (simple)
Elimination of ornate and things of simplicity by nature expresses their truthfulness. Neat, frank and uncomplicated.

KOKOU (austere)
Basic, weathered bare essentials that are aged and unsensuous. Evokes sternness, forbiddance, maturity and weight.

SHIZEN (natural)
Raw, natural and unforced creativity without pretence. True naturalness is to negate the naive and accidental.

YUGEN (subtle profound)
Suggest and not reveal layers of meaning hidden within. Invisible to the casual eye and avoiding the obvious.

DATSUZOKU (unworldly)
Transcendence of conventional and traditional. Free from the bondage of laws and restrictions. True creativity.

SEIJAKU (calm)
Silence and tranquility, blissful solitude. Absence of disturbance and noise from one’s mind, body and surroundings.
