Editorial Design

From the archives but still worthy:

iPad lacks Flash

Devil is in the details. Hopefully Apple and Adobe can kiss and makeup and offer consumers a 100% web-browsing experience.

iPad + Magazine Design = ?

http://www.fastcompany.com/blog/cliff-kuang/design-innovation/master-magazine-design-how-ipad-will-revolutionize-discipline
fast company magazine:
"A new way of telling stories

Editors have been telling us for years that people won't read long stories online. Yet they will read 1,000-page novels on their Kindles. What will they be willing to read on their iPad? I predict the return of long-form journalism. At the same time, visual storytelling will take deeper, richer forms. Information design will be more important than ever. Something like New York's Approval Matrix that we designed back in 2005 with Adam Moss is popular in print but will really come to life in this format. Some people might subscribe to it all by itself."

What is Old...Is Better

Mountain Dew packaging, although "throwback" is in my mind more original, timeless and better than the current designs. You decide.

AIA ditching Architectural Record, going with Architect

In a surprising announcement, the AIA is switching to Architect Magazine from Architectural Record. From the release it sounds like the AIA wanted more control and their own custom
publication. Architect from what I'm seeing looks like a better venue for that opportunity. Time
to cancel my Architectural Record subscription.

Modern Fireplaces

Modern fireplaces. A good discussion going on about options over at House by the Park. Featured here is
a page from the Spark Modern Fireplace catalog. Some really seamless fireplace options for the more
modern friendly aesthetic. Not a ton of character but it works if you are going super sparse.
